Searching for scholarships can seem like an overwhelming process. It can be if you don’t have a plan or even know where to look.

During my time at Clark Atlanta University, I didn’t have a well-oiled machine process but I was determined to graduate without owing anyone a dime. I spent countless nights in my dorm room on page 8 and beyond on google searching for opportunities.

Work Smart, Not Hard

Find databases that reduce thousands of scholarships to ones that you actually qualify for. In a later post, I’ll share a list of all the ones I utilized but for right now my favorite one to date is Unigo. When you create a free account and complete your profile, in seconds you’ll see a personalized scholarship list based on the information you entered. I stumbled upon this website and wish I found it earlier in my college journey. I received 2 scholarships totaling $1,500 from this gem!

Get A Planner

I love planners! I’ve always preferred to write down my to-do’s versus utilizing digital resources. It’s scientifically proven that writing helps us retain important information. Write down scholarship deadlines, reminders for recommendation letters, etc. I can guarantee this will save you time and keep you organized. I love the Happy Planner and the Bloom Daily Planner. Check out this blog post for the right planner for your needs!

Have A Checklist

The Toolkit Basics tab outlines the majority of what you need for success. Keep the contents in a folder on your desktop so it’s easily accessible.

The Scholars Toolkit aim is not to serve as a scholarship database but a conduit to make sense of the mess. Getting organized, having a blueprint, and starting early makes the journey a tad easier.
